“Painting is my life’s happiness and unhappiness. Each successfully created painting gives me a feeling of happiness. Failure leads to despair and creates a desire not to give up.” Valdis Bušs

Valdis Bušs is one of Latvia’s most prominent landscape painters. He remained dedicated to his work until the end, leaving behind a vast legacy of several thousand sketches and paintings. The exhibition at the “Art Platz” gallery showcases six decades of Valdis Bušs’s creative career. Inspired by 20th-century French modern art, he developed his own unique style. His artworks are characterized by vivid, contrasting colors and color combinations, saturated, pastose brushstrokes, and pronounced texture; his works are expressive and dynamic – alive.

“Valdis Bušs’s painting is a story of his love for his native Latvia and its natural beauty, his love for colors, and his chosen profession – painting.” Līga Baņķiere, Ieva Trillo (“Color and Light. Valdis Bušs”)
